The Tall Ships Liverpool

We went to see the tall ships in Liverpool on Sunday which is a gathering of tall ships from all over the world before the race. We started of at 9am and the weather was not good, raining and Liverpool can be very, very cold with its chilling wind.

We had to park outside of Liverpool and ride the bus in. It’s called park and ride. We had to pay £8 per car. Anyway, it was not that busy, not too many cars, probably because it is still a bit early. Ian was very excited…it was his first time on a public bus…haha…it was also my first time on a bus since I came here…hehehe.

He was quite good throughout the bus ride which was about 45 minutes. Once we reach Liverpool, the bus stopped near Albert Docks. We have to walk quite some distance to Albert Dock.

The ships were berthed on both Albert Docks and Wellington Docks. We decided to go to Wellington Docks first. So, we had to walk for about a mile plus to go to the shuttle service that will take us to Wellington Docks. Before queuing up for the shuttle bus, we had to use the toilet, oh my..the queue was quite long. That took about 20 minutes. Then queuing for the shuttle bus….*nearly fainted*…..very very long queue. Like a mile long…but at least it is moving. A lot of shuttle buses around so don’t have to worry.

Police on patrol on horses…

Once we reach the bus stop, have to walk another mile or so to the Docks. Before reaching, another long, long queue!!

Look at the queue..it goes on till the very, very, very end!

Also, it was windy and sunny at the same time…really strong winds. Once inside the docks, a lot of people there, was getting hungry, so sat down and ate some burgers. Went on a Mexican Ship. Another queue before going aboard. Ian was so excited..hehe..

After that we just walk around the docks and didn’t go on any more ships because it was really a big hassle to get on the ships, queueing and then the ladders/stairs are quite steep and a bit dangerously high for me…muahaha..have to hold Ian at the same time….

So going back to our shuttle bus, queueing again and really, really long queue this time and slow moving, waited for about 30 minutes. Then back at Albert Docks, a really really big crowd there…so we just wanna sit down and have something to eat. It was 4pm by then.

Everywhere was full and we finally found one restaurant which was not very full..but still have to queue. We were dead tired by the time we queue for our park and ride bus to get back to our car. That took us nearly an hour and the half just queueing!!! Also needed the toilet but couldn’t go in case the bus comes! So had to hold it, the cold wind didn’t help much, freezing! By the time we reach home it was nearly 8:30pm.

I have never done so much queueing in my life! Queueing for buses, entrance, food, toilets! Hahaha…even Ian has learnt the new word queueing…hehe…but I can say that everyone was very good at the queue, no pushing, impatient people or jumping the queue, very civilized and good-natured unlike Malaysia..hehe…
