Prams, Pushchairs, Buggys, Strollers & Travel Systems

Since my DS was born, I have been hooked on shopping on the net looking for stuff to buy.. Can’t really blame me ‘coz I have nought to do..actually loads to do. I didn’t have the luxury of having a maid being overseas and always travelling, so I have to do everything myself which is hell at times!! So I eventually became a pram-a-holic or rather my DH would say a baby-holic!! I am mad about stuff for babies and pushchairs/ prams/ strollers/ travel systems. I would search the net till late nites and just to check the reviews for one item before buying it.

So the 1st pram that my DS got was a gift from my MIL, we got it from Mothercare. It costs £130 and it was not worth it..I was still ‘green’ at that time.. ‘coz we rarely use prams in M’sia for so young age.The pram was humongous!! It was a nightmare getting in and out from the car!! My own mistake, I was too tired from being pregnant at that time, didn’t bother to search the net. So without hurting my MIL’s feeling, we sold it off on Ebay, yes, Ebay is heaven in the UK!! Got nearly all the money back, and bought another pushchair! We told my MIL that the pushchair was faulty so we returned it and got another one..

So this time we got the Quinny Speedi in Mauve which is a travel system, comes with a carry cot, Maxi-Cosi infant carrier and pushchair. This was bulky as well but it was great the infant carrier which is also a car seat. It was easy carrying my DS around and all you have to do is just click it to the frame and it transform to a pushchair. Costs about nearly £300. It was good but it still takes a lot of work to carry it in and out from car.
So it ended up on Ebay again after several months of usage, mind you, I only used the Maxi-Cosi infant carrier and the pushchair. The thing with it is the tyres, which is pneumatic..you need to pump air into it and there is a risk of puncture!! Secondly the thing that I didn’t like was the fact that the seat on the pushchair is to reclined. It stays in a 45 degree tilt and that really annoys my DS coz he can’t really sit up straight and look around. Got nearly all my money..of course I expect depreciation.

This time I got a Maclaren Techno XT, cost about £140. It was in Storm Grey. It was good, it opens and closes like an umbrella. It was lightweight and easy to use, it was useful on travels, the only thing is you cannot afford to hang loads of stuff on the handle or it will tip backwards. it is quite popular in the UK. After using it for about nearly 8 months, my DS outgrew it. When I put the raincover on, it was very tight across his legs, so I had to search for another pushchair..hehe.

Well, I looked and I got the Mamas & Papas/Peg Perego Pliko Pramette. It costs about nearly £300. It functions like a traditional pram with the practicalities of a lightweight pushchair and easily transforms into a travel system with the addition of the Primo Viaggio SIP Infant Carrier . It also uses the umbrella folding method like the Maclaren.
It is a 3-in-1 pram. I only used the pushchair as my DS is too big for the infant carrier/car seat.
However this is heavy and it does takes up most of the space in the car. Furthermore, the tyres squeak after a while, just needed oiling. I regretted buying this, althought the seat was much higher up and my son could see better, some of the mechanism is quite fragile. i had to be careful when putting it in the car and it is quite bulky too. Also the safety reins on it is useless. So again, it ended up on Ebay, haha, got my money after depreciation, not bad, about £270.
So, got another buggy, this time, with no frills, just a simple one, the Mountain Buggy and I loved it so far!!! I knew it was gonna be big and takes up the space but it’s lightweight suprisingly. It’s a red Mountain Buggy Urban from New Zealand. It costs about £350. Money well spent! It is easy to manuever and lightweight. My son loves it ‘coz it’s quite spacious. It is not umbrella folding so it doesn’t save space but still the best of the lot that I bought so far. The best thing is it can be used till your child is 4 and more.
They also do special buggy for disabled children. The tyres are pneumatic and I already had them done to be puncture-free. So, it’s guaranteed!! No need to pump air as well. GREAT!!

I also bought a Quinny Zapp in Capri for about £130. Haven’t used it yet, this is used on travels. So, that’s about all the pushchairs that I had so far…in my DS’s 2 years of life he’s had 6 pushchairs & buggys thanks to his mad pram-a-holic mummy!!! So if any of you need any advice on buggies, you can always ask me, I’ll be glad to help…

Haha.. so you are a buggy expert?

I use a humongous Graco! And later added a small Combi for travelling. :P

Hehe..yeah.Graco is moderately OK but it is very bulky..good for rough usage but heavy to go in cars, Combi is not popular here but I have tested it and it was too small for my son(big size) and a bit filmsy I think.
Yea, the Quinny is expensive like almost RM1k in Malaysia.
